Classroom Care Jamaica was born from lived experience, deep conviction, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education.
Our story
Classroom Care Jamaica is a U.S. based nonprofit
organization dedicated to supporting schools across Jamaica by providing essential classroom resources and teaching materials. We work directly with school leaders and teachers to identify needs and ensure that donated funds result in tangible, verifiable impact within classrooms.
Our founder, Shavonae Cherrington, is a trained science teacher from Jamaica who spent over eight years teaching within the Jamaican school system. During that time, she witnessed firsthand both the brilliance of Jamaican students and the persistent challenges teachers face when classrooms lack basic resources.
After relocating to the United States and continuing her teaching career here, Shavonae experienced the stark difference that adequate resources make in the classroom. Her academic journey, earning a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of the West Indies and pursuing a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the prestigious Boston College, reinforced one fundamental truth: when teachers are equipped, students thrive.
